Old Heaven and Earth has ALREADY Passed, but His Words Endure

Video Details

Description: In Matthew 24:35, Jesus declares that heaven and earth will pass away, but His words will not pass away. Bryan continues the Olivet Discourse series by showing that “heaven and earth” refers to the old covenant order—the temple, its people, and its system—which was passing away. He explains three meanings of Christ’s enduring words.
First, God keeps His promises. Jesus is not a liar. Scripture from Numbers 23:19, Isaiah 55:10-11, and Psalm 89:34 confirms that every word God speaks is fulfilled, including both blessings and judgments (Deuteronomy 28:63). Old Testament promises to Abraham and Israel, including the land under Joshua and Solomon, were already fulfilled historically. Their ultimate substance is found in Christ, the promised seed (Galatians 3:16; 2 Corinthians 1:20). The new covenant brings better promises (Hebrews 8:6), and the old covenant saints did not receive the final inheritance apart from the new covenant generation (Hebrews 11:39-40). Paul described the resurrection hope as “about to be” in his lifetime (Acts 24:15; 26:6).
Second, His word is profitable. It makes believers wise unto salvation through faith in Christ (2 Timothy 3:15-17) and is the living and enduring word by which people are born again (1 Peter 1:23). Although much of Scripture was written for us rather than directly to us, it provides examples for our instruction (1 Corinthians 10:5-6) and supplies everything needed for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). While flesh withers like grass, the word of the Lord stands forever (Isaiah 40:6-8).
Third, His laws are eternal in their moral core. A change of law necessarily followed the change of priesthood (Hebrews 7:12). Shadows such as animal sacrifices, separating food laws, and certain ceremonial regulations tied to the old system or the transition period have passed (Colossians 2:16-17; 1 Timothy 4:3-4). Yet the moral law that reflects God’s character remains. It defines sin (Romans 7:7; Galatians 3:19), is holy, righteous, and good (Romans 7:12), and was given to lead people to Christ (Galatians 3:24). Faith establishes the law rather than abolishing it (Romans 3:31). Even before Moses, people knew God’s law and could be judged for violating it.
Bryan calls believers to study Scripture diligently with Scripture so they neither neglect God’s enduring law nor impose regulations that no longer apply. The new covenant church is now the new Zion from which the law and the word of the Lord go forth to the nations (Isaiah 2:2-3), producing the fruit of justice and righteousness that pleases God.
